St. Martin's Adds Front Transept Organ Console
Through an incredible act of the Spirit, we learned of a small Kilgen Pipe Organ, around the same vintage as our Kilgen, up for auction on Ebay. With some aggressive bidding, we won the organ for the unbelievable sum of $1,025. Included were six ranks of pipes (well over 400 pipes), wind chests and reservoirs and a two manual and pedal console.
Charles & Earline Oertli, John & Bess Sommer and Thom Pavlechko traveled to St. Louis, Missouri last March and, with the assistance of organ technicians there, extracted the organ from an old church that was being renovated into condos. In this first phase, the console is being fitted to communicate digitally with the upstairs console through cabling installed for this purpose back in 1998. The rear gallery Kilgen organ will soon be able to be played from either of the front transepts.
