Sunday Morning Education
Sunday School for children and youth starts on Jubilee Sunday -- Sept. 13. Parents will have an orientation for children's education at 10 am in the Fellowship Hall. The Adult Forum and Faith and Fellowship classes will resume for the fall on Sept. 20th. The Foundations class resumes Sept. 6.
Adult Education Opportunities:
Adult Forum: 10 am on Sundays beginning Sept. 20 in the Fellowship Hall. This class is for all adults. Guest speakers and pastors share their wisdom and thoughts with class discussion and participation. Topics this fall include Theology of the Cross, Biblical Authority and the Advent Season.
Join us for these upcoming Adult Forum classes:
Sept. 20, 27 & Oct. 4: "Theology of the Cross" led by Rev. Phil Ruge-Jones. From the Apostle Paul to Luther to many today, the cross of Jesus Christ has shaped faithful thinking about God and the world. This class explores these traditions and the way that they might lead us into faithfulness. Ruge-Jones is the Associate Professor of Theology at TLU and the author of "The Word of the Cross in a World of Glory."
Oct. 11 & 18: "Water to Thrive" led by Melissa Zentgraf.
Oct. 25, Nov. 1 & Nov. 8: "Biblical Authority" led by Rev. Kurt Johnson, a retired pastor and a member of St. Martin's. The process by which scripture was created and canonized, and why and how we use it as a source of belief.
Nov. 15 & 22: "Maximizing Philanthropic ROI (Return on Investment)" led by Dick Rathgeber, an Austin philanthropist, a member of St. Martin's and the author of "Deal-Making for Good." How to use our talents for charity and gain significance for ourselves in our giving.
Nov. 29 & Dec. 6 & 13: "Advent" led by Ed Shirley, professor of Religious Studies at St. Edward's University.
Dec. 20: "The Real Story of Christmas" led by Norm Hummell, a graduate of the Crossways Leaders Training and member of St. Martin's. Hear about what was really going on around that stable on that night over 2000 years ago.
Other Adult Education offerings:
Foundations: 9:30-10:30 am on Sundays beginning Sept. 6 in the Chapel. Open to all ages interested in a Bible study and discussion. The class begins with the recitation of Psalms 118:24, hymns, and an exchange of joys and concerns. This fall, we'll begin a study of Galatians on Sept. 6 using materials from the Augsburg Fortress "Book of Faith" series. For more information, contact Bess Sommer at 512-244-6277.
Faith and Fellowship: 10 am on Sundays in the Parlor. Parents and others join together for discussion and fellowship. This class, which begins Sept. 20, is right across from the nursery so you can keep an eye on the little ones.
